Khalid has over 20 years of experience in growing and leading software development teams, and has held technology leadership positions at several companies. Khalid has significant experience designing and developing advanced decision support and intelligence systems at scale. Projects led by Khalid have received significant recognition, including awards for best systems from the National Association of State CIOs, and from the World Health Organization for the AIDS/HIV Disease Surveillance system developed for Trinidad and Tobago. Khalid holds a degree in Cognitive Science from University of Toronto.
Seyed-Parsa Hojjat, PhD, P.Eng. – Chief Scientist
Prior to joining Crater Labs as a Chief Scientist, Dr. Hojjat worked as an associate professor at the University of Toronto where he taught advanced methods for image analysis, ranging from classical machine learning to deep learning. While at UofT, Dr. Hojjat conducted research at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and was published multiple times in neuroscience journals for his research in the application of computer vision and artificial intelligence in fMRI and brain perfusion studies. Prior to his research work, Dr. Hojjat was an Imaging Research Scientist at General Electric. Dr. Hojjat received a Master degree in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University, and a PhD in Biomedical and Material Engineering from University of Toronto.
Nathan Perlmutter, PhD – Lead Researcher
Prior to joining Crater Labs as a Lead Researcher, Dr. Perlmutter taught graduate and undergraduate math at Stanford University where he conducted postdoctoral research in the fields of Algebraic Topology, Differential Geometry, interaction between these fields and their applications to machine learning and data science. Dr. Perlmutter earned a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy and a PhD in Mathematics from University of Oregon, and was awarded a fellowship by the American National Science Foundation.
Josh Langan – Director of Business Development
Josh is a talented business development executive helping Crater Labs’ clients on their AI/ML journey. He is a strategic thinker with a rare ability to see and recognize opportunities before they become apparent to many. Prior to joining Crater Labs, Josh worked in different business development and account management roles at several technology start-ups, as well as ran his own environmental consulting practice. He holds a B.Sc. Degree in Environmental Science and a B.A. in Kinesiology from Western University. Josh is an active member of the Toronto tech community and is frequently asked to speak on funding strategies and execution.
Ricky Fok, PhD - Lead Researcher
Prior to joining Crater Labs as a Lead Researcher, Dr. Fok conducted postdoctoral research in Statistical Machine Learning at York University in Toronto. Before relocating to Canada, Dr, Fok worked as a researcher at Fermilab, IL, where he performed particle physics research as part of his PhD thesis in Theoretical Physics. Dr, Fok received his degree in Physics and Applied Mathematics from University of Sydney, and his PhD in Theoretical Physics from University of Oregon. Dr. Fok is an active member of INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research & the Management Sciences).
Alexei Gavriline – Co-Founder and President
Alexei has over 25 years of experience as a business executive, having held senior leadership positions in both publicly-traded and private companies. A successful, creative entrepreneur, Alexei co-founded and scaled several companies operating in different industries. After receiving a Computer Science and Applied Mathematics degree from Kiev Military Academy of Aviation Engineering, Alexei completed a postgraduate study in Design and Programming of Expert Systems and Artificial Intelligence at Moscow Institute of Radio-Engineering, Electronics and Automatics, and earned his MBA at Schulich School of Business in Toronto.
